AirPlay

AirPlay is a modular, pop-up playground that brings play to youths aged 16 to 24. It consists of inflatable spherical modules and three play structures (Floater, Bouncer and Breather), with each play structure residing within the spherical module(s). The three play structures each explore different possibilities of air as the element of play.

The Floater explores air density through a helium-filled inflatable that drifts within an enclosed space. Its slow, buoyant movements relieve stress and invite users to interact with it by pushing and bouncing it off the walls of the module.

The Floater is a large, helium-filled inflatable that users can push around.

The Bouncer, a large inflatable spanning two modules, explores the movement of air in space. As each user jumps, sits or moves atop the Bouncer, their movements affect the dynamics of the other user’s experience.

The Bouncer enables a see-saw-like interaction between two people.

The Breather takes its inspiration from the visual and tactile experience of inflation. Consisting of two separate inflatables with fans attached, the Breather creates a breathing-like movement that users can either navigate across, be wrapped up in or lifted upwards to scale structures at an elevation. Its slow, rhythmic motions provide a relaxing and immersive experience for youths to unwind.

Like lungs, the Breather expands and contracts in a steady rhythm, enveloping users in a gentle embrace.
When oriented differently, the Breather can also offer a slow-moving surface to lounge on.

The spherical modules come with different numbers of doors, which enables AirPlay to have different permutations at different locations. At night, AirPlay transforms into a colorful and visually stimulating installation. As the play structures light up, the interactions that users have with them are revealed. With its inflatable and temporary nature, AirPlay encourages users to play with air, everywhere.
